Flip-Flops in Hip-Hop

Many hip-hop artists have acknowledged the advantages of flip-flops. They clearly know how cool these shoes are and how they make them look fresher, so following their fashion is definitely the first step you must take in order to be almost as cool as them. Hip-hop artists mention flip-flops in their sick songs, wear them on their fine feet, and sell them in their sweet stores.

Artists like Jay Z, OutKast,  and 2-Chainz among others have found flip-flops to be compelling enough to incorporate them into their songs.  XXL Magazine made an article listing 11 hip-hop songs that mention flip-flops. Because all the flip-flops that are mentioned are Gucci-brand, they are clearly used as a status symbol. What better way to show off your wealth than sporting a fancy pair of Gucci flops?

In the song “Thought It Was A Drought,” Future says “I just fucked your bitch in some Gucci flip flops / I just had some bitches and I made ‘em lip lock,” which clearly indicates that wearing flip-flops makes you a “playa’ that gets bitches.”

Jay-Z describes his accessories with the lines “Yellow wrist watch, Gucci flip flops / Six top model chicks, who is this hot?” – more evidence that wearing flip-flops makes you successful.

Method Man’s line, “Gucci flip flops, I box my way to the kitchen” affirms that you can also wear your flip-flops at home, meaning that anyone can wear them, not only famous rappers.

All of these songs point to one important aspect of flip-flops. They make you more successful. None of these artists would have made it to the big leagues without their flops. They could not have thought of those instant-classic-making lyrics without owning those Gucci flip-flops. They inspired these artists into making these meaningful songs.
